iPool Documentation

Welcome to the iPool documentation. This knowledge base contains technical documentation, guides, and resources for working with iPool.

What is iPool?

iPool is a market analysis tool designed to process historical and forecasted market data.

Market Simulation & Forecasting

  • WESM-Specific Modeling: Simulates price outcomes in both five-minute and hourly dispatch resolutions to align with Philippine market rules.
  • Historical & Forecast Traces: Tracks energy and reserve prices, system demand, and the "duck curve" (residual demand after solar and wind generation).
  • What-If Analysis: Quantifies the impact of various scenarios, including weather conditions, supply availability, participant bidding behavior, and network constraints.

Data Integration & Analytics

  • Seamless IEMOP Integration: Directly processes WESM data, including Real-Time Dispatch (RTD) offers for energy and reserves, without manual reformatting.
  • Advanced Visualization: Features tools like Fuel Stack and Bid Stack charts, box plots, and interconnector flow diagrams for deep historical analysis.
  • Production Costing: Utilizes detailed inputs such as start-up, carbon, and incremental costs to deliver reliable financial results.

Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning

  • Dynamic Bid Modeling: Employs Fuzzy Logic to allow bids to adapt to market conditions like dam levels, wind variations, and reserve margins.
  • Specialized Forecasting: Uses a 70-feature matrix and hybrid Machine Learning models to predict demand and renewable generation with high accuracy.
  • Weather Intelligence: Integrates premium weather data, including 100m hub-height wind speeds and solar irradiance metrics (DNI/DHI/GHI).
  • LLM Assistant: Supports natural language orchestration via APIs like Gemini to automate simulations and query system status.

System Reliability & Planning

  • Generation Expansion: Identifies the "What, When, Where, and How" of capacity investments to satisfy system reliability and profitability.
  • Monte Carlo Simulations: Assesses reliability metrics such as Loss of Load Probability (LOLP) and Loss of Load Expectation (LOLE) using stochastic modeling.
  • Unit Commitment: Evaluates cost-based merit orders while considering reserve requirements, power flows, and dynamic loss factors.

Asset & Resource Management

  • Renewable & Storage Optimization: Features specialized modeling for BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems), cascaded hydro systems, and intermittent wind/solar resources.
  • Transmission Modeling: Simulates inter-zonal power flows, thermal limits, and dynamic stability constraints across the WESM network.
  • Maintenance & Emissions: Automatically schedules plant maintenance and adjusts bids based on carbon trading values and emissions costs.
