Historical Bids

Historical bids allow the system to reflect the actual supply and demand offers submitted during a selected historical period. They are useful when the goal is to compare simulated results against historical outcomes or analyze market behavior under real operating conditions.

Prerequisites

Before starting, ensure the required raw WESM CSV files have been downloaded and organized. These files will be converted into .bidx files to make them compatible with iPool for historical loads and backcast simulations.

  • RTDOE — Energy Bid Offers: contain the energy bid offers submitted by generating units
  • RTDOR — Reserve Bid Offers: contain the reserve bid offers

Step-by-Step Guide

1

Download and Organize WESM Files

Download the required WESM bid files for the target historical period. Save the files in the appropriate WESM files directory:

C:\IENERGY\WESMXXXX\WESM FILES

Make sure the files cover the full date range required for the historical load or backcast simulation.

note

Replace WESMXXXX with the correct project or study folder being used.

If the generated .bidx files are incomplete or missing, check whether the raw CSV files are placed in the correct folders and whether the selected date range matches the available WESM data.

Exercise

Give it a try and do this exercise:

Step 1 of 3

Download WESM files for a one-week period and place them in the RTDOE folder

Files saved to C:\IENERGY\WESMXXXX\WESM FILES\RTDOE
Date range covers all required trading days
